Meeting Notes April 3, 2018

Hey everyone,

We had a productive meeting on Tuesday.  In attendance were Maureen and Emily. Thanks!  We missed everyone else.

Here’s a brief summary. I’ve used green to indicate action items with the name of the person responsible underlined. Julie has a class on Tuesday and Thursday nights and will be missing our monthly meetings for a time.

Julie let us know when your class will be over

Spring Flowering Tree Walk

We elected to do a tree walk in lieu of our next meeting.  We will meet at Whole Foods on 15th and Freemont on Tuesday May 1 at 7:00 pm.  We will decide where to walk at that time.

Maureen will post a notice on next door.

Emily will attend the Sabin Neighborhood Association meeting tomorrow – Monday April 9.

???? We need to take Van off of our email and Google group lists.

All Keep a look out for nice streets to incorporate into our walk.

NEXT MEETING: Tuesday May 1, 2017 7:00 to 8:00pm Whole Foods, NE 15th and Fremont, dining area.

Meeting Notes January 2nd, 2018

Hey everyone,

We had a productive meeting on Tuesday.  In attendance were Maureen and Dallen. Thanks!  We missed everyone else.

Here’s a brief summary. I’ve used green to indicate action items with the name of the person responsible underlined. Dallen will be away until January 25.

Workshops

Urban Forestry is stepping away from workshop management and will be training tree teams to run their own workshops more independently.  As a result the King-Sabin Tree Team will not have a pruning workshop January 27.

All Keep your eyes open for Urban Forestry workshops to train tree teams to conduct pruning workshops.

Spring Flowering Tree Walk

Daylight savings is March 11 but more trees might be in flower in late April. If we think this will be advertised and could become a larger event we may need to coordinate with Urban Forestry to get safety vests and an amplification system.

Maureen and Dallen Begin to look at the King and Sabin tree inventories to develop a list of Spring Flowering trees.

Maureen Email Kevin and Julie to see if Urban forestry has a bloom time data base.

Dallen Email Emily to get a copy of the Sabin plant database

  • Sabin Neighborhood Association second Monday of the month

Upcoming Events

Friends of Trees has a planting scheduled (Sabin, Hollywood, Sullivan’s Gulch, Irvington) on March 3

From Last Meeting

Heritage Tree Nomination

The next round of nominations are due on May 1st 2018.

Julie will check back in with the school.

All: If you have nomination ideas in Sabin let the Tree Team or Julie know. Our current idea is Sabin school trees which dovetails nicely with putting together a school-oriented tree walk.  Private properties are OK the trees just need to be visible from the ROW.

NEXT MEETING: Tuesday February 6, 2017 7:00 to 8:00pm Whole Foods, NE 15th and Fremont, dining area.

Meeting Notes December 5, 2017

Hey everyone,

We had a productive meeting on Tuesday after a brief hiatus.  In attendance were Maureen, Emily, Dallen, and Julie. Thanks!  We missed everyone else.

Here’s a brief summary. I’ve used green to indicate action items with the name of the person responsible underlined.

Workshops

We have a Pruning Workshop scheduled for Saturday January 27

Mason has left Urban Forestry so we need to confirm that this is still on the schedule. We may need to assist UF with the following:

  • Flyer Design
  • Flyer Posting
  • Identifying a target pruning area
  • Securing a meeting location

Julie will contact Nick to confirm the workshop is scheduled, ask what type of support UF needs, and see if there are options for other workshops.

Maureen will contact Van to see if he has pruning location suggestions.

Heritage Tree Nomination

The next round of nominations are due on May 1st 2018. Sabin only has one heritage tree so that is our priority.

Julie checked out the Sabin School Gingkoes and feels they may be too damaged for nomination.  The Coast Redwood might still be a possibility.  Dallen recalled that we might need approval for nomination from above the school students/staff level

Other Events

Emily suggested that we do a tree walk in lieu of a meeting after daylight savings.  GREAT IDEA!  We will revisit this as spring approaches and pick a date.

NEXT MEETING: Tuesday January 2, 2017 7:00 to 8:00pm Whole Foods, NE 15th and Fremont, dining area.

Meeting Notes July 5, 2016

Hey everyone,

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend!!!

We had a productive meeting on Tuesday.  In attendance were Maureen, Emily, Julie, and Dallen.  Thanks!  We missed everyone else.

Here’s a brief summary.

Google group List

We seem to have quite a large list but not too many folks who are active.

Dallen will send out an email to the group to invite folks to drop from the list if they would like.

 Tree Plan Brochure

We have submitted our final edits to Angie.  We will start using the brochures once we have minimal content on our WordPress page.

Monthly meeting schedule etc.

Web Page

Emily secured kingsabintreeteam.wordpress.com for our use. She shared a potential layout at the meeting and we discussed additional content including:

meeting schedule, upcoming events, event photos, neighborhood trees of interest postings (by season), tree care tips (by season), links to urban forestry, and so much more.

Julie provided Emily with the photo CD from the Sabin Inventory

Maureen will see if she has the King CD

Emily will follow up on the write up that Amy had penned for the Sabin Newsletter that could be used as a staring place for our web page copy.

Heritage Tree Nomination

Julie gave us the sad news that our nominees were not accepted because they were planted in cut outs below overhead wires. These conditions were not explicitly cited in the criteria. The next round of nominations are due on May 1st 2017. Sabin only has one heritage tree so that is our priority.

All: If you have nomination ideas in Sabin let the Tree Team of Julie know. Private properties are OK the trees just need to be visible from the ROW.

 Neighborhood Association Meetings

Julie attended the May Sabin NA Meeting and said it went very well.

NEXT MEETING: Tuesday August 2, 2016 7:00 to 8:00pm Whole Foods, NE 15th and Fremont, dining area.
